Paris, February 20, 2008

The “Créateurs sans frontières” (Creators Without Borders) trophy was founded by Culturesfrance. Each year since 2005, it has been awarded to recognize particularly noteworthy actions of international artistic creation.
This year, the trophy in the Sponsoring category went to the Jean-Luc Lagardère Foundation, in recognition of its involvement in various cultural activities, particularly the creation of the events at the French pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2007.

Within the framework of the Biennale, the Jean-Luc Lagardère Foundation lent its support to the exhibition by Sophie Calle, “Prenez soin de vous”. It was also responsible for fostering a link between this exhibition and the Maison de Solenn in Paris, which offers a space for adolescents in difficulty. Sophie Calle talked with these young people, many of whom had dealt with relationship problems.

On 19 February at the Quai d’Orsay, Bernard Kouchner, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, presented “Créateurs sans frontières” trophies to the Jean-Luc Lagardère Foundation, as well as to several artists who had contributed to the international renown of French culture.

Culturesfrance is the agency of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs responsible for international cultural exchanges. It was created in June 2006 by the merger of the Association française d’action artistique (AFAA) and the Association pour la diffusion de la pensée française (ADPF). Reporting to both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture and Communication, Culturesfrance carries out its mission in cooperation with French cultural institutions and with French cultural networks abroad.
