Europe 1 becomes the first French radio station to launch a channel on YouTube

From today, Europe 1 is the first and only French radio station to launch a channel on the famous video-sharing site, offering the YouTube community access to its video podcasts at http://www.YouTube.fr/europe1.

This new channel is an unprecedented initiative for a French radio station; Europe 1 joins other respected European media organizations that already offer their content on YouTube, such as the BBC, Antena 3 and Cuatro TV in Spain, Welle in Germany and Al Jazeera, in its English version.

Throughout the world, YouTube users will be able to comment on Europe 1’s clips, give their opinion and recommend them to their friends, but also post their own video responses to communicate with other “listeners”. The new channel also includes links to the station’s official website.

The general interest radio station will be presenting clips on YouTube that offer a behind-the-scenes look at programmes, such as how Nicolas Canteloup decides which personalities he’s going to caricature during his weekly programme “La Revue de Presque”, or the way in which the Europe 1 sports team organizes its ‘multiplex’ with correspondents in all football stadiums during the French Ligue 1 championship.

Other clips will look back at events organized by the station, such as the day when Jean-Marc Morandini had Peter Falk as a guest on his programme about television, or the concert given by the talented singer Olivia Ruiz and covered by Thierry Lecamp, Europe 1’s music specialist.

Europe 1 is also going to be surprising webheads by sharing videos such as the one in which the station’s President, Jean-Pierre Elkabbach, welcomes the leader of France’s Revolutionary Communist League (LCR), Olivier Besancenot, with candles to celebrate his birthday.

Over time, Europe 1 will continue to offer other content on the site by adding new clips every day.

Commenting on the launch, Jean-Pierre Elkabbach, President of Europe 1, said:
“This is a terrific opportunity for Europe 1 to establish a new kind of relationship with its audience, and to make itself known to the YouTube community. Video podcasts will enable radio stations to share things that normally remain behind the scenes. Europe 1 is proud to be the first radio station in France to introduce the public to what really happens at a radio station!”.
