Paris, March 11, 2010

The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and IEC in Sports have announced a new partnership agreement with Dailymotion for live and VOD broadcast of the 2010 IAAF World Indoor Championships, Doha, Qatar (12-14 March).

IEC in Sports, a member of the Lagardère Sports group, and Dailymotion have announced the signing of a new broadcasting agreement for complete coverage of the 2010 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Doha, Qatar, on 12-14 March. Thanks to the deal, athletics lovers and the general public will be able to watch the event live and on VOD for the first time ever. The ground-breaking partnership underlines the increasingly important role digital media outlets are playing in the coverage of major sporting events.

News of the deal follows last October’s announcement that the IAAF had sold the European and African audiovisual and digital media rights to the World Athletic Series* for 2010-2013 to IEC in Sports.

Every event at the World Indoor Championships (pole vault, long jump, 400m, 800m, etc) will be broadcast live from the heats through to the finals. It will also be available on VOD and through a 52-minute round-up of each day’s action will also be available on the site.

Dailymotion will complete this outstanding free offerings by putting together short highlights packages for each of the event’s three days, lasting two to five minutes.

In countries where broadcasters do not own the competition rights (eg, Germany, Belgium). Dailymotion will have exclusive broadcasting rights to the Doha world championships. In those countries where broadcasters do own the rights, Dailymotion will offer additional coverage to allow as many viewers as possible to follow the event.

Jonas Persson CEO of IEC in Sports, media partner of the IAAF, declared: “This agreement with Dailymotion is a great success for us and it shows the progress of negotiations with New Media. It also means that New Media companies are complimentary to FTA broadcasters. IEC in Sports shows its capacity in innovation by bringing the sport of athletics to new interesting platforms such as Dailymotion.”

* The World Athletic Series comprises the World Indoor Championships, World Cross Championships, Race Walking Cup, World Junior Championships, World Cup in Athletics, World Half Marathon Championships, World Youth Championships and the World Athletics Championships.
