Magweb, operated by the Sfez family, has announced its acquisition of Photo magazine and the photo.fr site, both previously owned by Lagardère Active.

Eric Colmet Daage and Agnès Grégoire, who manage the magazine, are partners in the subsidiary created specifically for Photo and its website.

Colmet Daage, who helped found the magazine and has been involved with it since its launch, will serve as managing editor and art director, while Grégoire, who joined the staff 20 years ago, will be editor-in-chief.

Photo is joining a company whose arts and new-technology specializations will allow the magazine to continue developing in line with its positioning, in particular on the Internet and for iPad.

The leading monthly periodical in its market with 709,000 readers* and distribution in 70 countries, Photo is the leading international photography benchmark. Created in 1967 by Daniel Filipacchi and Roger Thérond, its pages have featured the work of the world’s top photographers, from Henri Cartier-Bresson to David Lachapelle, Robert Doisneau, Sebastião Salgado, Helmut Newton, Guy Bourdin, Irving Penn and Richard Avedon.

“We are very pleased that Photo, a standard-setting magazine, will be able to continue its growth within a company where it will be a central focus and whose operational size matches its needs,” said Bruno Lesouëf, managing director of Lagardère Active’s Magazine Press France division.

Magweb also publishes the arts monthly Art Actuel.
