2017 Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon expands global media footprint

Lagardère Sports distributes global media rights, adding new broadcasters in China and Americas
Organisers of the 2017 Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon today confirmed broadcast of tomorrow’s race on a pan-Middle East basis with Dubai Sports Channel, Orbit Sports Network as well as pan-Africa on SuperSport and Kwese Sports.
New broadcasters for the 2017 race include major Chinese TV channels CCTV5+, Shanghai Five Star, Fujian TV and Guangdong Sport Channel. In Europe, BeinSports France will air the event and Sky Mexico across Central America. In the United States, the race will be available as a live stream on Flo Sports.
Lagardère Sports acts as host broadcaster for the prestigious Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon and handle all global media distribution. In 2017, the cooperation is in partnership with Dubai Sports Channel who will provide some broadcast facilities and personnel.
Held annually, the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon boasts both the world’s richest prize fund of USD800,000 and an additional bonus of USD250,000 for a new world record. The current course record for men set by Ayele Abshero (ETH) in 2012 of 2.04.23 will be challenged in 2017 by Keninisa Bekele (ETH) whose fastest time in Berlin (2:03:03) was six seconds off the world record. On the women’s side, Shure Demise Ware, who ran her personal best in Dubai of 2.20.59 in 2015, will be chasing the 2.19.31 course record of three-time champion Aselefech Mergia (ETH).
Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon Event Director Peter Connerton said: ‘’The Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon continues to go from strength to strength. With around 30,000 runners competing across the event and Keninisa Bekele looking to break all sorts of records, the stage is set for year another memorable occasion.”
