For almost two centuries, the Folies Bergère has been recognized worldwide as one of the most prestigious music halls. It was within this legendary venue that the very first music-hall revue was born over 150 years ago. Originally inaugurated in 1869 under the name Folies Trévise, the theater officially adopted its current name, Folies Bergère, in 1872.

Since 1990, the building has been listed as a Historic Monument. Renowned for its exceptional attention to set design, costumes, and staging, the venue has hosted some of the greatest musical productions and welcomed legendary performers such as Joséphine Baker, Jean Gabin, Charles Trenet, Fernandel, Charlie Chaplin, Mistinguett, and Maurice Chevalier.

A true cultural symbol, the theater was immortalized by Maupassant in Bel Ami, who described its promenade, and by Manet in his iconic 1881 Impressionist painting A Bar at the Folies-Bergère.

In recent years, artists such as Ben Harper, Texas, Herbie Hancock, Zazie, Benjamin Biolay, Vincent Delerm, and Alex Lutz have taken to its stage, drawn by the venue’s singular atmosphere. The Folies Bergère has also been a natural choice for visionary creators such as Jean-Paul Gaultier, who presented his Fashion Freak Show there, and Dita Von Teese, who brought her own revue to life on its stage.

Originally devoted exclusively to the music-hall revue, the Folies Bergère has evolved over time to meet shifting audience expectations, all while preserving the spirit that defines its identity. To this day, it remains a true emblem of Parisian cultural life.
