Paris, October 3, 2008

In conjunction with the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union, a giant map, 25 metres wide and 55 metres long, was installed on 10 September 2008 on the lawn of the Champ-de-Mars at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, offering visitors the opportunity to learn more about the European Union and its 27 member countries.

The map is supported by temporary flooring so that visitors can move about on it, offering them an entertaining way to discover facts and figures about each Member State, such as its population, its surface area or the date it joined the Union. It is also surrounded by additional information panels.

The goal of this event is to familiarize visitors with the geography of the 27 Member States, in order to enhance their understanding of the history of the construction of Europe. It is designed as an educational tool that will encourage Parisians and tourists of all ages to take an interest in Europe. It is also a symbolic means of bringing the European Union closer to all of its citizens.

The map will be open to all until the 2 November. It is currently in the process of being entered into the Guinness Book of Records.

The Lagardère group is proud to be associated with this event on a European scale.
