Editora Escala (www.escala.com.br), the second largest publishing company in Brazil, will launch Car and Driver as a monthly magazine in Brazil in November 2007 through a licensing agreement with Hachette Filipacchi Media U.S.. Car and Driver Brazil will be the 17th edition in the global “Lagardère Active Car Network” which reaches over 22 million readers each month. Editora Escala publishes a portfolio of magazines consisting of over 130 monthly titles.

We are pleased to partner with Editora Escala for a license in Brazil. They have an excellent reputation and track record, and the Brazilian market is a good one for the Car and Driver brand,” said Kliger. “There is a high level of interest from the business community and advertisers because the automotive industry is vigorous in that country. For the automotive enthusiast and in-market buyer, the Car and Driver brand will represent quality, expertise and independent journalism as it does here in the U.S.”

In Brazil the first car plant was established in 1956. Fifty-one years later there are 24 different car companies in Brazil producing approximately 2.5 million cars each year with 3,600 car dealers.

Car and Driver is the world’s largest, most comprehensive automotive enthusiast brand combining respected editorial and technical expertise with the ability to place readers in a virtual driver’s seat. In the U.S. over 10.5 million enthusiasts read the magazine each month with more than 3 million consumers going online to CarandDriver.com for expert automotive advice. In addition to print, online, mobile and radio content, Car and Driver has recently announced a series of branded driving events across the U.S. in 2008.
