Librairie Arthème Fayard

At the end of the 19th century, Arthème Fayard Jr. helped to make literature more accessible for all by printing his books in large quantities and selling them at modest prices, thus making Fayard one of France's most famous publishing houses. French and foreign literature, the social sciences, history, musicology and major essays traditionally hold pride of place at Fayard. A century and a half after it was founded in 1857, the publishing house has also diversified its activities by enriching its catalogue with the collections of various imprints, including Mazarine, Pauvert, 1001 Nuits and, as of 2010, the Pluriel paperback collection. Its catalogue currently has 8,400 titles, to which some 200 new releases are added each year. Its many signed authors in a wide range of genres - including Jacques Attali, Elisabeth Badinter, Robert Badinter, Jane Birkin, Hélène Carrère d'Encausse, Madeleine Chapsal, Hillary R. Clinton, François de Closets, Gérard Davet et Fabrice Lhomme, Virginie Grimaldi, Faïza Guène, Yannick Haenel, Michel Houellebecq, P.D. James, Ismail Kadaré, Henry Kissinger, Serge et Beate Klarsfeld, Julia Kristeva, Frédéric Lenoir, Edgar Morin, Vincent Nouzille, Michelle Obama, Barack Obama, Erik Orsenna, Pierre Péan, Jean-Christian Petitfils, Roman Polanski, Alexander Solzhenitsyn, Aurélie Valognes and Hubert Védrine - attest to its relevance and diversity.
