The 2009 Canal J Espoirs de l’Animation award winners

At the International Animation Film Festival, Canal J and its partners announced the winners of the 2009 Espoirs de l’Animation awards:

The Espoir du Jury award: selected by a professional jury, winners receive €5,000 toward developing a new animation project.

The Espoir du Public award, selected by children via www.canalj.fr.

The competition was held in association with several animation schools: La Poudrière (Valence), l’Ecole Estienne (Paris), l’Ecole Georges Méliès (Orly), l’Ecole Emile Cohl (Lyon), ECMA (Ecole des Métiers du Cinéma d’Animation, in Angoulême), ESAAT (Ecole Supérieure des Arts Appliqués et du Textile, in Roubaix) and SupInvoCom (Arles).

“This beautifully-written film, very well produced and perfectly suited to the chosen theme, is also full of humour and subtleties pitched at just the right level for children. This film was judged to have the best balance of criteria required to win the Espoir de l’Animation du Jury Professional 2009 award.”

The professional jury, which comprised a broadcaster, a producer, a CNC representative and an author, included:

  • Pierre Belaïsch, Managing Director, Programming and Networks at Lagardère Active’s Television division
  • Thibaut Chatel, producer and member of the SPFA Board of Directors
  • Sophie Cheynet, Head of Animation, CNC Audiovisual department
  • Annabelle Perrichon, SACD administrator responsible for animation

Awards ceremony
The 2009 awards ceremony will be broadcast on the Canal J network on Friday 12 June at 8:30 pm.

It will also be shown on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 June at 8:30 pm at the Centre Pompidou as part of the Annecy 2009 à Paris event, organized by the Bibliothèque Publique d’Information.
