  • Louis Hachette (1800-1864) buys Brédif, a Paris bookstore and lays lays the foundation for what is today one of Hachette's main areas of activity in the media sector: book publishing, the press and distribution.

  • Louis Hachette was one first people in France to publish an entertainment magazine, Le Journal pour Tous, aimed at the general reader.
1855
  • Louis Hachette is one of the first publishers in France to bring out a magazine designed to entertain the general public: Le Journal Pour Tous.
1863
  • Louis Hachette begins to publish the Dictionary of the French Language by his friend Littré.
1864
  • Death of Louis Hachette.
