Solidarity action

Sporting events

Lagardère understands just how unifying sporting events can be. Sports are both played and experienced, and top athletes become modern-day heroes who often inspire other athletes and serve as role models. To promote this unifying aspect of sports and instill in young people a real desire to succeed, the group regularly co-organizes and supports two events:

The Jean-Luc Lagardère Trophy: up close with sports legends
Lagardère has been organizing the Jean-Luc Lagardère Trophy tennis tournament since 2004 under the leadership of Guy Forget. Part of the Merrill Lynch Tour of Champions, the tournament reunites eight former world tennis legends on the Lagardère Paris Racing Club’s courts. Over the years, it has welcomed the likes of John McEnroe, Jim Courier, Boris Becker, Sergi Bruguera, Guy Forget, Goran Ivanisevic, Thomas Muster, Marcelo Rios, Björn Borg and Stefan Edberg.

For four days, the tournament becomes the setting for unexpected match-ups and exceptional performance – a treat for all tennis fans, especially the younger generation. The prestige and reputation of these iconic players remain high, and they always draw a good crowd: some 4,000 spectators attended the most recent tournament.

Mondial Paris Cadet–Lagardère Trophy: life lessons through sports
In 2005, Lagardère became the official sponsor of the Mondial Paris Cadet-Lagardère Trophy, an international junior tennis tournament open to the best young tennis players aged 16 and under from France and abroad. Over a 10-day period at Lagardère Paris Racing Club, the tournament provides an opportunity for young players to develop the competitive spirit so necessary for any sporting contest. Lagardère’s goal is to promote its vision of sports as a life lesson while helping to identify talented young players early in their careers.
