Médiamat'Thématik results, January-June 2013: Canal J, the fastest-growing youth and children's channel

Based on the performance it posted during this sweeps period, the best in four years,
Canal J is now ranked among the top five special-interest channels in its core target, the 8-12 age group, and recorded the strongest growth among youth and children's channels compared to the previous sweeps period among all children's targets:*

  • Up 77% in the 8-12 demographic, up five spots, with 2.3% audience share
  • Up 56% in the 4-10 demographic, up five spots, with 2.5% audience share
  • Up 50% among boys ages 4-14, rising two spots, with 2.4% audience share
  • Up 38% in the 4-14 demographic, up two spots, with 1.8% audience share

Two time slots have shown particularly strong growth:

  • After school, the leading time slot in the youth market (4:30 pm-8 pm weekdays), posted very significant growth of 56% compared to the last sweeps period, rising to 2.8% audience share in the 4-10 demographic.
  • In this slot in particular, the channel expanded its adventure and comedy programming, offering the most popular animated series, such as Beyblade Shogun Steel, Yu Gi Oh Zexal, Max Steel, Kaijudo, Saint Seiya Omega, Monster High and Titeuf; iconic dramatic series, including Power Rangers Samurai, Trop potes and Samantha Oups; and exclusive shows, such as Canal J Style and Le Big Jump, all airing when kids return to school in the autumn.
  • Saturday afternoon (1 pm-6 pm), especially the all-adventure slot, is the period showing the most growth, rising 131% compared to the previous sweeps period in the 4-10 age group, to 3.7% audience share.

Canal J Replay sets historic record
During this period, Canal J's catch-up offering, exclusively available on CanalSat, also experienced a net increase and broke an historic record in May, with 80,000 views. Top 3 viewings for January-May: Power Rangers, Monster High and Angry Birds.

The sample consisted of 8,382 people in the 4-and-up demographic living in 3,374 households that receive a multi-channel package via cable, satellite or ADSL, i.e. 70% of the television households in France - consolidated audiences.
