Le Petit Larousse Illustré 2010

A commemorative collector’s edition for the 120th anniversary of “La Semeuse”*
Draw me a word!
To celebrate the anniversary of the “La Semeuse” logo, created in 1890 by Eugène Grasset, Larousse asked 40 renowned illustrators to select and illustrate 400 words and expressions from the common noun section of the Petit Larousse Illustré 2010. The resulting styles range from humorous to off-the-wall to poetic.
Contributors represent the crème de la crème of the French press sector’s comic strip artists and illustrators, including Binet, Cabu, Druillet, Fred, Loustal, Moebius, Soledad, Lewis Trondheim, Wiaz, Willem, Wolinski, and Valérie Lemercier.
- 150 new words, meanings, expressions and idioms are covered for a wide range of areas, such as the environment, economy and society, politics, culture and new technologies, including various words deriving from French-speaking countries and regions beyond France.
- 50 new celebrities are listed, from a French politician to a Jamaican athlete, an American actor and filmmaker, a French writer, an American politician, a French actor, and a British/French singer and actress.
- Seven new plates, executed in the classic Larousse tradition, feature illustrations of shells, animal and plant mimicry, animal tracks, orchids, provinces and regions of old France, legendary rulers, and astronomical instruments.
- The educational value has been enhanced with a clear, easy-to-use, four-colour grammar guide at the beginning of the volume and an alphabetical index for common and proper nouns to make it easier to find the right entry.
- And there’s a special bonus gift: with each Petit Larousse Illustré 2010 purchased, you will also receive our handy mini-dictionary, Le Plus Petit Dictionnaire Larousse.
And, as always, this single volume is packed with 59,000 common nouns, 28,000 proper nouns, 5,000 illustrations, 300 colour maps, the famous “pink pages” full of quotations, proverbs and historical words, a list of words whose spellings have changed, and a timeline of important world events.
