A massive rally for the planet at the Great Dune of Pyla, supported by Gulli and Pascal Obispo
Earth Day – 22 April 2009
To celebrate Earth Day, the biggest popular environment-related event in the world, Gulli is inviting children to get involved in a Rally for the Planet at the summit of one of Europe's most spectacular and fragile sites: the Great Dune of Pyla, at the entrance to France’s Arcachon Bay.
This event, created for Gulli by Tribal DDB, is part of the channel's "Gulli ma Planète" (“Gulli My Planet”) initiative, which aims to provide children with the means to take action to protect the environment and help them rally the adults around them as well.
Actively participating in reforestation
The event on 22 April is not only symbolic in its aim of bringing together as many people as possible at the Great Dune of Pyla to form the biggest "human tree" ever created; it is also very concrete, because for each participant, Planète Urgence will replant one tree in the Gulli children's forest in Indonesia as part of a reforestation program in partnership with Gulli.
Gulli chose to involve Planète Urgence – an NGO promoting international solidarity, supported by the United Nations Environment Programme – in this event because, as part of its struggle to protect the planet (by fighting climate change, restoring ecosystems and protecting the most at-risk populations), Planète Urgence has set a goal of planting more than one million trees in 2009.
The founding act of the first environmental movement led by children
Les Enfants pour la Planète (Children for the Planet) is a movement created and run by children for the benefit of children, parents, grandparents and everyone else, in association with Gulli and as part of the "Gulli ma Planète" initiative.
The movement is striving to become a melting pot of ideas, proposals and activities that unite as many children and families as possible in one common dream: helping to protect the planet.
A community-based approach to help children meet the challenge
- Ten forward-looking short films to mobilize support
Audrey, age 10, expert bear counter, Nathan, age 11, winterologist, and Anna, age 6, recycling pro, are three of ten children aged 6 to 12 who star in film clips as professionals performing jobs that they just might have to do one day in order to preserve our Earth’s riches and diversity.
These ten, one-minute short films (by Good TV for Gulli) will be broadcast between 8 and 22 April as a call to arms aimed at encouraging people to join in on the rally. Shown on Gulli (five times per day between programs and in the pre-prime timeslot), gulli.fr and Daily Motion Kids, these clips will also be available to any site or blog wishing to spread the word.
The clips will then be broadcast, with a new tagline, to encourage children to join Les Enfants pour la Planète and to continue their efforts throughout the year.
- A dedicated online area
To find out more about the 22 April rally (which is open to everyone) or sign up to join Les Enfants pour la Planète (as of April 10), please visit the following address: www.gulli.fr/lesenfantspourlaplanete
This area on the channel's site (under Gulli Tribu) is entirely devoted to the movement and serves as the digital meeting place for its members, where they can find information, exchange ideas and prepare initiatives. A movement newsletter is also in the works.
- A Facebook page
This page is another way of spreading information about the event, broadcasting the clips and collecting comments and good ideas for advancing the cause.
Pascal Obispo lends his support!
A native of south-western France, Pascal Obispo gave two concerts in Arcachon in March to benefit victims of a storm that hit the region on 24 January, and the theme of his next album, due out on 20 April, is protecting the planet. With this in mind, it was only natural for this Cap-Ferret resident to help his neighbors by participating in the event.
His invitation to the rally will be broadcast as of 10 April via Gulli, gulli.fr and all outlets covering the operation. He will also join up with Les Enfants pour la Planète and all who accompany them at the Great Dune of Pyla on 22 April.
