Employment: choosing talent to reflect diversity in society and our markets

At 31 December 2015, the Group had a global headcount of 25,784 employees in more than 30 countries.

Adapting to local cultures, the diversity of consumers and increasingly complex markets is strategic to the development of all Group businesses. The Lagardère group is highly diverse, as reflected in its wide range of business activities and their employees’ broad array of expertise. Given the nature of their activities, the Group's divisions have a duty to reflect the society to which they belong.

The diversity of its teams allows the Lagardère group both to attract new talent and to boost its growth and innovation.

To promote equal opportunity for all employees and fair employment practices, Lagardère endeavours to develop cross-divisional action, particularly by identifying best practices within the entities and sharing them throughout the Group.

Lagardère is opposed to all forms of discrimination based on a person's origin, lifestyle, age, sex, political or religious opinions, trade union affiliation, disability or sexual orientation.
As such, the Lagardère group works to apply and promote the ILO's fundamental principles on eliminating discrimination in employment and occupation and on eliminating forced and compulsory labour.

Recruitment

In 2015, the Group hired more than 5,500 employees worldwide.

Recruitment is decentralised and managed by our subsidiaries' Human Resources Departments. Recruitment volumes and selection processes therefore vary depending on the entity and are adapted to their activities.

Promoting work placements and work-study programmes

Lagardère invests in guidance and training for young people by promoting work-study placements and programmes. Each entity has set up extensive exchange programmes with schools and universities.

In 2015, Lagardère group companies welcomed 1,513 young people on work placements and signed 609 work study contracts.

These contracts enable students to explore and receive training relating to our businesses and allow the Group to identify future talent.

The Group attends forums organised by schools to present work placement, work-study and job opportunities to students and young graduates.

These events are also a unique opportunity for recruiters to present the Lagardère group and its brands and for candidates to receive feedback on their career orientations.

Lagardère has partnered an exciting event since it was created eight years ago: the World Academic Sport Challenge with France’s top schools and universities. This one-day sports competition brings together students and companies and includes actions to promote the integration of employees with disabilities, along with the chance to discuss the professions of partner companies.

Diversity

Adapting to local cultures, the diversity of consumers and increasingly complex markets is strategic to the development of all Group businesses. The Lagardère group is highly diverse, as reflected in its wide range of business activities and their employees’ broad array of expertise. Given the nature of their activities, the Group's divisions have a duty to reflect the society to which they belong.

Lagardère’s equal opportunity policy has translated these principles into three main focuses:

  • giving greater importance to the place of women in the Group
  • integrating employees with disabilities
  • breaking down stereotypes based on race or social class

In keeping with the promotion of cultural and content diversity within the Group’s activities, the diversity of its teams allows the Lagardère group both to attract new talent and to boost growth and innovation.
