The growth of employment in the Lagardère group is closely linked to the growth of the business, which has largely been achieved through external acquisitions over recent years. At December 31, 2010, the media division employed 27,063 people worldwide.

Temporary employment
Temporary employment is analyzed on a regular basis and successful efforts have been made to reduce it in the various divisions in recent years. The average level of employees on fixed-term contracts across all sectors is around 7%, though this varies significantly depending on the business (in the audiovisual sector, employees who are paid a fee for each appearance are included in this category) and the level of temporary staff represents 4%.
Recruitment
The group receives a large number of unsolicited applications every year. This is a testament to the well-established reputation of our name and our brands, as well as to the degree of interest in our business and the ambitious scope of our projects. We are viewed as a highly attractive employer at every level of recruitment, but for all that, the group is continuing in its efforts to communicate with young people to impress the Media image on them even more firmly. In 2010, the group hired 4,962 staff in the World in particular 1,161 staff in France.
Diversity
Our vision for diversity fully incorporates the Group's values of creativity, boldness and independence. We intentionally refer to this not as "diversity", but as "equal opportunity". This clearly sets forth the Group's anti- communitarianist position in the corporate world. We seek to clearly distance ourselves as much as possible from this trend by promoting equal opportunity. Within the Group, the Human Resources Department implements this through an objective management process that it oversees in cooperation with the managers.
We decided to be especially active in three areas (the place of women in the Company, disability, integration of young people from at-risk areas,) without making this proactive approach synonymous with positive discrimination.
- In 2010, women represented 59 % of the total Group staff. The challenge posed in the various divisions is therefore not exactly to reach a balance between the number of male and female employees but to demonstrate true fairness in the assignation of positions with responsibility.
- The Lagardère group still considers that disability remains largely under-represented within the company. Also, special attention will continue to be paid to this issue in the future, particularly under the banner of Mission Handicap, available with success at Lagardère Active, under the logo "Je suis
Handicap". Mission Handicap moreover organized in September and November 2010 two events dedicated to an introduction to sign language. - In 2010, the Lagardère group continued its partnership, launched in 2006, with the organization "Nos Quartiers ont des Talents", which was founded in Seine Saint-Denis in 2005 and whose scope covers the entire Paris region (the Group's main area of operations in France). Its work consists of organising forums for employers to meet with young people from sensitive urban areas (which helps increase their access to the labour market) as well as creating sponsorships with the Human Resources Directors to guide them in their job searches.
Concrete action and internal communications are preferable, rather than large displays and signing public charters. We are aware of the progress that we have yet to achieve. Our ambition is to improve step by step without going too far too fast.
