Sporting events

The Lagardère group understands how unifying sporting events can be. They represent an opportunity for sports to be both played and experienced, and major champions are iconic figures who inspire other athletes and often serve as role models. To promote this unifying aspect of sports and give our young players a taste for competition, the group has associated its name with two major events.

The Jean-Luc Lagardère Trophy: sporting legends – live and in person!
Lagardère has been organizing the Jean-Luc Lagardère Trophy every year since 2004, in partnership with IMG and under the leadership of Guy Forget. Part of the Merrill Lynch Tour of Champions, the tournament reunites eight former world tennis legends on the Lagardère Paris Racing Club’s courts. Over the years, it has welcomed the likes of John McEnroe, Jim Courier, Boris Becker, Sergi Bruguera, Guy Forget, Goran Ivanisevic, Thomas Muster and Marcelo Rios.
Over the course of four days, the tournament becomes the setting for some incredible encounters and exceptional billings for all tennis fans. The prestige and reputation of these iconic players remain highly attractive and always draw a good crowd: over 4,000 spectators came to watch the last event, and the stadium was full to the brim on Sunday, the final day of the tournament.

Paris World Juniors – Lagardère Trophy: sports as a life lesson
In 2005, Lagardère became the official partner of the international Paris World Juniors - Lagardère Trophy tournament.
This event is open to young tennis players age 16 and under from both France and other countries. Over a 10-day period at the Croix Catelan centre, the tournament offers them the chance to develop a sense of competition appropriate to other sporting contests.
The group's goal is to promote its vision of sports as a life lesson while helping to identify talented young players early in their careers.
