World Sport Group: a strategic acquisition for Lagardère Sports

With a solid position in Asian football, golf and cricket, World Sport Group stands out as a preferred partner for these sports’ governing bodies.

In the fast-growing Asian market, numerous international brands increasingly see sports sponsorship as a means of capitalizing on new opportunities. Through its presence in India and China, World Sport Group represents a major partner for such brands.

The acquisition of World Sport Group will enable Lagardère Sports to take part in a far-reaching sports project in Asia. Initiated in 2008, the Singapore Sports Hub is an ultra-modern sporting complex that offers stadium seating for 55,000 spectators, a 41,000-sq.m shopping centre and a 6,000-capacity indoor aquatic centre.

Lagardère Sports wins european media-rights management for the 2014 and 2016 Olympic Games

In early 2009, Lagardère Sports and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) finalized an agreement under which the IOC will award Sportfive the management of European media rights for the 2014 Winter and 2016 Summer Olympic Games.

This agreement makes Lagardère Sports a preferred partner of the IOC, which granted control of media rights to an agency for the first time in its history.

The Olympic Games are the world’s foremost sporting event, broadcast in over 200 countries. Sportfive will manage the Games’ media rights in 40 European countries (excluding France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Turkey and the UK) for all media platforms, including free-to-air television, subscription television, Internet and mobile phone.
