Lagardère Services, formerly known as Hachette Distribution Services, is a €3.7 billion consolidated sales company (€4.8 billion managed sales) operating in three businesses:

  • Travel Retail: 35% of 2006 managed sales
Lagardère Services opened its first store in Paris Gare de Lyon in 1852 and now stands as the world leader in Travel Retail: more than 1,600 stores in 18 countries, 100 airports worldwide (including Paris, Barcelona, Frankfurt, Madrid, Chicago, New York, Toronto, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney…) and more than 500 railway stations.
The Group focuses on:

Lagardère Services is a world leader in press distribution. Every day, in 12 countries, the Group carries out the pick-up, dispatch and delivery of millions of copies of national and international newspapers and magazines.


Travel Retail

Since 1852, Lagardère Services has been able to develop a strong understanding of the travellers' and landlords' expectations and needs. Working on a partnership basis with landlords is a core objective as illustrated by:
  • Lagardère Services long time presence in major airports (such as Paris, Toronto, Sydney, Brussels, Madrid, Geneva and Frankfurt) and railway networks (France, Belgium, etc...)

Highstreet Retail

Lagardère Services operates a network of high street and shopping mall press stores, designed to fit the needs of customers outside transportation areas.
A wide range of new or well-established names adorn the shop fronts of press and bookstores dotted all over towns and cities. Sometimes these local shops also stock a limited range of convenience products.

Two well-known names that have been around for decades are Press Shop in Belgium and Naville in Switzerland.The Group tests and develops a wide range of specialised concepts as part of its constant effort to keep customers satisfied.
The Inmedio network recently made its appearance in Eastern Europe (Hungary, Poland, Romania, Russia…). With its modern, progressive image, this new and rapidly expanding network increases the potential for local press distribution.

Virgin: a cultural revolution
When it took over Virgin Stores in 2001, Lagardère Services became a major player in the specialised cultural leisure retail sector. The Group has expanded Virgin's operations throughout France, and has already opened more than thirty multimedia culture stores that receive more than 11 million visitors a year.

With its strong presence in 20 countries and the expertise gained in these different markets, the Group establishes partnerships with some of the major players in the retail sector.
Paul, Printemps, Bijoux Terner, Hermès, Moa, L'Occitane… are just some of the partner names that illustrate the three areas in which the Group operates: foodservice, coffee shops, and specialized concepts.

Providing a service to publishers as well as retailers and readers, Lagardère Services is the only specialised group with an international network supplying more than 50,000 press outlets in 12 European countries.
Curtis Circulation Company, North America's leading magazine distributor with a 35 per cent share in the North American market, operates a network of independent wholesalers and manages the sale of magazines for America's biggest retail chains.

A wholesaler in Belgium, in Switzerland, in Spain, in Hungary and in Poland, the Group supplies every day 50,000 points of sales.
It provides the downstream network (the points of sales) and the upstream network (national distributors and publishers) with an optimum quality of service, in terms of logistics and information.
In addition to press distribution, the Group offers a complete range of services, such as the distribution of phone cards, of " trendies ", or the distribution of mail-ordered products…
