2016 challenges

DENIS OLIVENNES

Chairman of Lagardère Active

WHAT WERE THE HIGHLIGHTS FOR LAGARDÈRE ACTIVE IN 2016?

The transformation undertaken over the last five years to address changes in our sector is paying off. For the fifth consecutive year, Lagardère Active experienced an improvement in its profitability in 2016.

The Audiovisual activity is now at the heart of our business. Today, it forms a powerful division that is developing internationally and which enjoyed very successful results in 2016, notably with Lagardère Active Radio International's successful expansion into Cambodia and the launch of Elle Girl. Our musical radios set new records across the board, and Europe 1 has established itself as France's leading digital radio station.

We also put a new focus on our flagship press brands, and expanded their sources of revenue.

Lastly, we sold the LeGuide.com website and invested heavily in our digital developments. As a result, our digital revenue increased significantly in both our legacy media and our pure players.

WHAT ARE YOUR CHALLENGES AND PRIORITIES FOR 2017?

Our priorities in 2017 are to continue to remodel our business portfolio around Audiovisual, Digital and e-Health, to develop the non-media revenues of our press brands (notably via brand publishing), to consolidate the management of data from our online and offline media, and to continue simplifying our organisations and cutting our costs.

This year will see new acquisitions for Lagardère Studios in Europe, as well as the international development of our radio stations and television channels. We also plan to restore the results of Europe 1, which is now a comprehensive media broadcasting in all formats. We also plan to continue to focus on the digital and non-media development of our prestigious press brands, while ensuring the quality of their content, and further broadening our digital footprint.

We have to address new uses and patterns of consumption, as well as changes in business and technological models, without ever losing sight of what we are doing: informing and entertaining with exacting standards and integrity.
